Mandy Martinson (born 1989) is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota. As class valedictorian, she received her BFA in photography from the College of Visual Arts in May of 2012. That following fall, Mandy was selected as a finalist for the Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists. In the spring of 2016, she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design.
Influenced by her father's work as an investigator of violent crime, Mandy uses photography and artifacts to create her own personal and anecdotal investigations exploring the complexities of perception and exposure. She draws inspiration from the impact of her father's career on family life, exhibiting the collision between the mundane and the macabre. The investigations are not set up to be completely solved, but to deconstruct and examine conventional perceptions of the "idyllic" home and family life.
